This annual event is the nation’s premier forum — and in fact, it is the “Global Stage for Innovation and Impact,” this year’s theme — on minority supplier development. For four days, more than 6,000 corporate CEOs, procurement executives and supplier diversity professionals from top multinational companies — as well as leading Asian, Black, Hispanic and Native American business owners and international organizations — will convene in Austin to re-energize their collective efforts to develop and advocate for more vigorous participation by minority-owned firms in global corporate supply chains.

In keeping with its theme, this year’s Conference will see more than 20 learning sessions and interactive workshops that will engage attendees with details of the latest commercial and entrepreneurial advances, as well as strategies and techniques to prepare for economic developments in the coming years.

“The National Minority Supplier Development Council is pleased to present once again its Conference and Business Opportunity Exchange, this year in Austin,” said Adrienne Trimble, President and CEO of the NMSDC. “We welcome our corporate members and minority enterprise leaders, for whom this event is annually the most valuable place to network, connect, advocate for and develop their business dealings, and to gain knowledge of the latest innovations that impact the area of minority supplier development. We also honor those individuals among our corporate and MBE network, and our affiliate regional councils, who have demonstrated great leadership and achievement in minority supplier diversity.”

The NMSDC Conference coincides with the National Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week, presented by U.S. Commerce Department’s Minority Business Development Agency. MBDA will present a series of Powered by MBDA workshops and seminars at the conference that will focus on Federal Government resources including trade/exports, infrastructure, and federal procurement opportunities. MBDA will also host the MBDA Pavilion where minority entrepreneurs and business owners can obtain one-on-one business counseling and coaching sessions.

A highlight of the Conference is the Business Opportunity Exchange on Tuesday, October 16, which will feature more than 700 exhibit booths. This unique national trade show attracts corporations and minority business enterprises (MBEs) looking to network and expand. Corporations present their supplier diversity programs, share information on how to do business with their companies and acquaint themselves with the capabilities of MBE suppliers who are ready to provide products, services and solutions to major corporations, hospitals, universities and other buying organizations. Minority business owners showcase their businesses and conduct numerous sales calls with dozens of Fortune 500 companies and other buying institutions.

The NMSDC BizConnect Matchmaker program (by appointment only) is another popular avenue for networking and connection at the Conference. Special sessions for the Emerging Young Entrepreneurs (EYE) program give its invited participants, a gathering of millennial entrepreneurs, a business boost. Throughout the days of the event, thought leaders, chief procurement officers and seasoned minority business executives engage in panel discussions, plenary sessions, speakers’ luncheons, power breakfasts and workshops to share best practices, current issues, and unfolding trends that augment the value that minority suppliers deliver to corporate customers.

The Conference culminates on Wednesday, October 17, in a black-tie Awards Banquet to recognize and honor individuals for outstanding achievements in minority supplier develpment among corporate members, MBEs and affiliate regional councils in the NMSDC network, followed by a Farewell Reception.

The City of Austin derives great benefits from hosting the NMSDC Conference and Business Opportunity Exchange; it is estimated that the local economic impact will exceed $30 million, including revenue from state and local taxes, and more than a thousand jobs supported. Most conference attendees will spend an average of more than $1,000 during their stay in Austin.

Corporate Co-Chairs of the 2018 NMSDC Conference and Business Opportunity Exchange are Dell, Wells Fargo and Toyota; MBE Co-Chairs are InGenesis, Ongweoweh Corp, and Acro Service Corporation.
