Product Safety Groups and Richard A. Chaifetz School of Business Launch Product Safety Certification Program

Richard A. Chaifetz School of Business

New certification program will begin on campus at Saint Louis University January 16, 2017. Registration takes place August 1 - October 30, 2017

ST. LOUIS , MISSOURI, USA, February 20, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- A program focused on advancing the safety of consumer products by furthering the skills, vision, and education of individuals in the consumer product safety field has been announced by three organizations that have collaborated to create this first-of-its-type, professional certification program. The program is directed towards product safety professionals with experience in the field who will complete a special university-based program and examination to demonstrate through an examination their understanding of the core principles of an advanced, proactive, effective product safety system.

The Society of Product Safety Professionals (SPSP), a membership organization that promotes professional development in the product safety area, helped develop the framework for the program and will provide the designation “Certified Consumer Product Safety Professional” to those completing the university course requirements and examination.

Consumer Product Safety Certification Services (CPSCS), an independent affiliate of SPSP, developed the safety-focused values and standards that the program reflects, as well as the core knowledge requirements for building and maintaining a complete product safety system within a company or organization. Successful candidates must demonstrate they have this knowledge and understanding through a university-administered examination and case study process.

The Richard A. Chaifetz School of Business at Saint Louis University has integrated the overall requirements into a 3-month hybrid program consisting of two workshops on campus and up to ten webinars provided during the program that address core areas of a product safety system. Along with the examination, the program culminates with a product safety case study developed by candidates and defended before a panel of university and product safety experts.

Knowledge areas covered in the university program include: 1) the development and promotion of a culture that emphasizes product safety as a highly visible and important organizational value within a company; 2) assessment of product risks to consumers, including the role of standards; 3) regulatory compliance with a focus on the United States approach to regulations at the local, state, and federal levels; 4) product incident tracking and investigations that address legal and proactive safety considerations; and 5) product recall and withdrawal.

The program will have a 3-month registration period from August 1 – October 31, 2018 and begin its first certification course January 16, 2019 on campus at the Richard A. Chaifetz Cook School of Business on the campus of Saint Louis University.

To be eligible for the program and examination, individuals should have 10 or more years of relevant product safety work experience, or 7 or more years of relevant product safety work experience coupled with a university bachelor degree in a related field, or such other criteria as might be deemed adequate by CPSCS.

The formal program will be delivered at the Emerson Leadership Institute within the Richard A. Chaitetz School of Business, in cooperation with ADK Information Services. More information on the program is available at the Emerson Leadership Institute, 314-977-3836, email: eli@slu.edu,

The announcement took place at the 25th annual symposium of the International Consumer Product Health and Safety Organization (ICPHSO) at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando, Florida.
