GREAT FALLS – The Business Improvement District is looking to light up the Electric City for the holiday season.

For years, the Downtown Chicks have sponsored a window decorating contest for downtown store owners, but the Business Improvement District wants to expand the festive feeling.

This year, they are holding a separate contest for downtown property owners to light the outside of their buildings from the ground up.

Business Improvement District Community Director Joan Redeen said she was inspired by beautiful lights in other communities.

“Durango Colorado lights up like crazy during the holiday season and so I started to think about why can’t we do that here,” she explained.

As part of the contest, Northwestern Energy has agreed to sponsor prizes for the top displays.

This Light Up Downtown contest is open to all downtown property owners.

The holiday decorating contest of the downtown buildings is separate from the window decorating contest sponsored by the Downtown Chicks.

Exterior building decor must be in place no later than Friday, December 7, in time for everyone attending the Christmas Stroll to enjoy the beauty and lights of downtown.

Photographs will be taken of all entrants and posted to the Destination Downtown Great Falls Facebook page for public vote. Awards will be presented to the top three best holiday displays in downtown.

Voting for this contest will take place from December 7-14, the winners will be announced December 21.

To participate, you must register your building with the Business Improvement District (BID) office at 406.727.5430 or info@greatfallsbid.com no later than Friday, November 16.
