DOHA: The Bayt.com ‘Jobseeker Confidence Survey,’ revealed that a large majority (82.8%) of job seekers who provided an answer expect business conditions in Qatar to ‘improve’ in a year’s time.
When it came to current business conditions, almost three quarters (73%) of job seekers thought they are ‘average’, ‘good’ or ‘very good’.
Job seekers have largely positive perceptions of future economic conditions. According to the survey, three quarters (74.7%) Qatar job seekers who responded to this question said they expect their country’s economy to ‘improve’ within the next six months.
In regards to availability of jobs in Qatar, more than eight in 10 job seekers (83.9%) who answered this question believe the availability of jobs will ‘increase’ (49.4%) or maintain the same level (34.5%) in the next six months. What’s more, over half (55%) of job seekers are either ‘somewhat hopeful’ or ‘very hopeful’ that they will find their ideal job in the next six months. Twenty percent of job seekers were neutral in response to this question.
The survey, administered by Bayt.com and YouGov, global online market research company, aims to gauge perceptions and attitudes of job seekers regarding the job hunt. The positive findings of this year’s job seeker confidence index are also echoed in the Bayt.com Middle East Job Index, which showed that nearly nine in 10 companies across the MENA region will be hiring over the next 12 months.
Even at the personal level, a large majority (94.2%) of job seekers in Qatar who provided an answer said they expect their personal financial position to ‘improve’ or at least ‘remain the same’ in the next six months.
Likewise, 91.3% of job seekers who responded to the survey question on career growth said they expect their career growth opportunities to either improve or maintain the same level in the next six months. Currently, less than three in 10 (29%) Qatar respondents are dissatisfied with their career growth opportunities.

Data for the 2018 Job Seeker Confidence Survey was collected online from 18th January 2018 to 11th February 2018. Results are based on a sample of 4801 respondents from the following countries: UAE, KSA, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Palestine, Syria, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Sudan, and Pakistan.
