Fourth Global Business Forum on Africa Kicks off in Dubai With High-Ranking Officials

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry launches the fourth Global Business Forum on Africa tomorrow (Wednesday, November 1, 2017) at Madinat Jumeirah.

The Forum is one of the most important global events focusing on Africa and highlighting the trade and investment opportunities in the continent. The event presents an ideal platform bringing together leaders, senior officials, decision-makers, investors and businessmen from around the world to take advantage of the opportunities available across all major sectors in Africa.

Bearing the theme “Next Generation Africa”, the 2017 edition of the event looks into the role of young entrepreneurs in stimulating economic growth, enhancing investment opportunities and building trade ties with the region and the world. Experts and officials will additionally discuss the role of technology in catalysing growth in Africa, weigh out potential partnerships with major African companies, and explore incentives for governments to remove all obstacles limiting the flow of foreign direct investment to the continent.

This year’s Forum stands out for the notable participation of African heads of state, ministers, a host of senior officials and as many as 1,000 experts and decision-makers. The high-profile attendees will discuss Africa’s prospects for economic growth, as well as the development of trade and investment relations between the continent, the UAE and the wider region. The Forum seeks to establish Dubai as a hub for trade and logistics, and a source of investment and financing services for Africa.

His Excellency Majed Saif Al Ghurair, Chairman of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be attending the Forum, along with H.E. Reem Ebrahim Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation H.E. Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda; H.E. Danny Faure, President of the Republic of Seychelles; H.E. Yoweri Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda; and H.E. Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, President of the Republic of Mauritius.

The two-day event also welcomes H.E. Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, as well as the country’s first lady, H.E. Rebecca Naa Okaikor Akufo-Addo, in addition to a host of ministers from various African countries, namely: H.E. Dr Isatou Touray, Minister for Trade, Regional Integration & Employment, Republic of Gambia; H.E. Yaw Osafo-Marfo, Senior Government Minister, Republic of Ghana; Hon. Henry Mussa, Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Republic of Malawi; H.E. Hatim Al Sir, Minister of Trade, Republic of Sudan; H.E. Margaret Mwanakatwe, Minister of Commerce, Trade & Industry, Republic of Zambia; H.E. Amadou Ba, Minister of Economy, Finances & Planning, Republic of Senegal; H.E. Mubarak Al Fadl Al Mahdi, Minister of Investment, Republic of Sudan; Hon. Oryem Henry Okello, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Republic of Uganda; Hon. Irene Muloni, Cabinet Minister of Energy & Mineral Development, Republic of Uganda; Hon. Ephraim Kamuntu, Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Republic of Uganda; Hon. Matia Kasaija, Minister of Finance, Republic of Uganda; and H.E. Ignatius Chombo, Minister of Finance & Economic Development, Republic of Zimbabwe.

Other dignitaries are also scheduled to appear at the Forum, such as Mr. Taavi Roivas, Former Prime Minister, Republic of Estonia; Mr. Lai Yahaya, Senior Special Assistant to the President, Republic of Nigeria; H.E. Festus Mogae, Former President of the Republic of Botswana; H.E. Cheick Mobido Diarra, Former Transitional Prime Minister of Mali; Mr. Abdourahmane Cisse, Special Advisor to the President, Republic of Côte d'Ivoire; and Mr Sim Tshabalala, Group Chief Executive Standard Bank Group.
