GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WLOS) — A North Carolina dump truck driver is dead following a late-night crash over the weekend on Interstate 385 in Greenville County, South Carolina.
According to the Greenville County Coroner's Office, the driver was identified as David Mather Whitehead Sr. of High Point, North Carolina.

The Greenville Police Department reported that at 11:33 p.m. on June 15 a 911 call was received for a traffic accident in the area of Interstate 385 South at exit 37. Police said two vehicles were involved, and both were traveling Southbound.
Upon arrival, officers found a white Audi with two passengers and a dump truck with one passenger, the report said. All passengers were transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital, and the driver of the dump truck was pronounced deceased at the hospital, police said.
Police said the passenger of the Audi remains hospitalized with serious injuries.
During the investigation, officers determined that the white Audi had struck the dump truck, causing it to overturn and eject the driver. The driver of the Audi, identified as Joan Esteban Velez, 32 years old, has been charged with felony DUI resulting in death, felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury and open container.
The coroner's office said in a news release that Whitehead was pronounced dead at 12:42 a.m. on June 16 at the hospital.
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed on June 16.
