On a perfect, clear 70-degree day in early May, WYEP welcomed listeners to Cadence Clubhouse in Allison Park for the second edition of the WYEP Neighborhood Concert Series.
People of all ages filled the patio beside Cadence Clubhouse as Clover County took the stage. Hailing from Georgia, Clover County started the afternoon with a beautiful solo set of indie and Americana songs rich with emotion and imagery. The audience found her set endearing and engaging, especially when songwriter, A.G. had to stop to remember a lyric (resulting in a humorous and humanizing moment of a musician finding a creative way to work through what might have been an awkward encounter for a lesser performer).

Next up, WYEP host Rosemary Welsh welcomed SNACKTIME to the stage. The calm and reflective space created by Clover County was starkly contrasted when SNACKTIME flipped a switch and turned the concert into a full-on dance party. The Philadelphia-based funk soul band tapped into their years of experience performing everywhere from the streets of Philly to festival stages across the country. Kids and adults were waving their hands in the air, jumping up and down, and shouting call-and-response lyrics. Everyone in the place gobbled up the SNACKTIME energy and left no crumbs.

As the sun went down and the café lights came on, Kashus Culpepper took the stage with an acoustic guitar, a weathered voice, and a catalog of songs that entranced the capacity crowd. The audience was pulled into an intimate set of country-tinged Americana songs accompanied by a pedal steel. In addition to Kashus performing his inspired original songs, he gifted the audience with a few select covers including a sing-a-long of Marshall Tucker Band’s hit, “Can’t You See.”

If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like if you and 400 of your friends had a backyard get together with the hosts from your favorite radio station and top notch, national musicians, the WYEP Neighborhood Concert Series at Cadence Clubhouse was just that. Somehow both intimate and energetic, WYEP hosted an event that reflected the diversity of its playlists with the help of our community of generous supporters.
Join us for the next Neighborhood Concert Series show at South Park on July 18 with Chuck Prophet & His Cumbia Shoes! And in the meantime, stop by the WYEP Summer Music Festival on June 21 at Schenley Plaza in Oakland, where we’ll hear performances from Sammy Rae & The Friends, Dehd, Fantastic Cat, Jack Swing and Colatura.
The Neighborhood Concert Series is made possible thanks to generous supporters of the WYEP Live Music Fund.
