Maryland man sentenced to 16 years for armed robberies across three counties

A Landover man has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for a series of armed and attempted armed robberies.

U.S. District Judge Theodore D. Chuang sentenced James Kareen Day, 43, to 16 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release. The alleged crimes took place in businesses across Howard, Montgomery, and Prince George’s counties in Maryland.

According to Day's guilty plea, between December 2022 and February 2023, he committed three armed robberies and four attempted armed robberies. During some of these incidents, Day brandished a short-barrel shotgun while demanding cash and valuables, fleeing with money and other property from the businesses and victims.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results.
