Teen with gun crime history sought in Georgia man's weekend shooting death near Ohio State

A teenager being sought in the shooting death of a Georgia man visiting Columbus over the weekend in the University district is no stranger to the law.

19-year-old Jaquan Curry is wanted for the homicide of Ronald Diggs. Diggs was killed on April 29, after he was gunned down outside a Waffle House on North High Street near Ohio State's campus.

Three other persons of interest are also being sought by police in connection with Diggs' homicide investigation.

ABC 6 has learned Curry was charged with a gun-related crime less than two years ago.

In 2022, Franklin County Municipal Court records state Curry was charged with "using weapons while intoxicated," a misdemeanor, after police say he was discovered under the influence of alcohol and lying face down with a firearm in an apartment complex second-floor landing.

Police were called to the apartment after reports of gunfire, during an argument between two men.

Instead of paying a fine for the crime, Curry was allowed to participate in a gun safety pilot program through the Columbus City Attorney's Office. for people with non-violent misdemeanors.

Curry was required to surrender his weapon to be destroyed and take gun safety classes to be educated about the dangers of a firearm. His case was dismissed after he successfully finished the six month program in August 2023.

Some people continue to make bad decisions, this person clearly did," said City Attorney Zach Klein. "He needs to be held accountable for it."

When Curry was 15 years old, CPD says he was wounded during a double-shooting in northeast Columbus. He was not severely injured.
