Inaugural Black Belt Paddler Challenge in Miami Opening a stage for athletes of all levels

Black Belt Paddler announces the inaugural Black Belt Paddler Challenge featuring world renowned athletes from Florida and across the US including international racers from Tahiti, Hawaii, and Brazil, who are on a quest to take home the title on April 27, 2024 at the Miami Marine Stadium located at 3501 Rickenbacker Causeway, Miami, FL 33149. 

Over 100 paddlers will hit the waves drawing inspiration from the rich heritage of outrigger canoeing. This event will boast athletes using various watercrafts from outrigger canoes and surf skis to kayaks and stand-up paddles. The Black Belt Padder Challenge organizer Andre Souza says the event promises to offer a stage for athletes of all levels consistent with the history of the sport and community. 

“Our goal is to provide an engaging and inclusive platform for paddlers of all backgrounds to come together and enjoy the thrill of competition,” Souza, a black belt in jiu jitsu, said.  

The race embraces the values of dedication, commitment, and perseverance, akin to the martial arts tradition.

The Black Belt Paddler Challenge, one of the longest in Florida, aims to redefine the paddling experience, offering participants an opportunity to test their skills and push their limits in various disciplines including V1, OC-1, Surfski, Prone Paddleboard, Standup Paddleboard, and Kayak.

The race will feature a long course, which is approximately 12 miles, and a short course of approximately seven miles. 

A cash money prize of will be awarded to the winner of the long course race.  

The Black Belt Paddler Challenge is more than just a race, it is a celebration of the diversity of the paddling community, welcoming world champions from French Polynesia, Hawaii, Brazil, and North America, and a chance for paddlers to connect and share experiences. Furthermore, the event will showcase the various sponsors who share a passion for this sport including Infinite Source Communications Group, ARE Canoes, Kana Lui Miami Outrigger Club, Hurricane Masters, Coco Interior Design, City Wolves Jiu Jitsu.

“We invite paddlers and ocean enthusiasts of all levels to join us for this inaugural event,” Souza stated. “Let’s come together to celebrate our shared love for paddling and the beauty of the ocean.”

The event will also initiate a beach clean-up after the race in an effort to preserve the beauty of Biscayne Bay.
