Apple TV App Arrives On Roku

Following
This article is more than 4 years old.

Roku has announced that the Apple TV app is today going live for a wide range of Roku devices, marking another major milestone in Apple’s bid to extend its living room reach ahead of the launch of Apple TV+.

Owners of compatible Roku devices will be able to add the Apple TV app free of charge, giving them immediate access for the first time to the large library of movie and TV show content available via the iTunes movie store.

The Roku Apple TV app will also provide access to Apple’s new Apple TV+ service when that launches on November 1.

To add the Apple TV app, all that owners of compatible Roku devices need to do is find the freshly minted app in the Roku Channel Store, and choose to add it to their devices’ app collection.

Note, though, that the app will only be available to Roku device owners in the following regions: The US, Argentina, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, France, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom.

Note, too, that while the Apple TV App has confirmed to me that it will support 4K and HDR on Roku TV devices that also support those two picture features, Apple also said that it has “Nothing to announce on Dolby Atmos or Dolby Vision at this time”.

The list of Roku devices confirmed as supporting the Apple TV App goes as follows:

Roku is a valuable partner for content providers looking to reach a large and engaged audience, and we’re looking forward to bringing this new option to Roku users.”
